Lingopal (Lingopal Holdings Pty Ltd) is close to launching the first version of their mobile phone translation application, says CEO Richard Johnson.
A talking phrase-book for mobile phones, Lingopal gives users the ability to break the ice with foreigners in a convenient, economical and fun way, in multiple languages.
Since Stone Ridge Ventures and private investors committed $700,000 several months ago, the company has built up a team boasting major international success (Kazaa, Trade Me, mig33), and has expanded the product development to cover J2ME, mobile web and API technologies.
Developing in mobile web and API not only takes advantage of chatroom integration and enhanced handset browsing capabilities, but it also forms a crucial step in the next stage of development – making the experience community-driven whereby users can contribute and download phrases themselves.
Lingopal’s initial version, due for release in August 08, will be able to interchange between 40 different languages, allowing users to quickly and contextually translate and listen to phrases in a practical and engaging way while in a situation where they don’t speak the native language.
