SRV Investee Orthocell met a major milestone on June 20th with the opening of its GMP certified laboratories at the Murdoch University campus. The common user clean rooms will not only be used for the further development of Orthocell’s tendon repair and regeneration technologies, but will also be made available for use by other cell therapy focused biotechnology companies. This is a significant advance for the West Australian Biotechnology community as until now, companies and researchers have had to look interstate and overseas for clean room access.
Through government grants, leveraged by an investment from the Stone Ridge Ventures MWEP Fund, the cost effective pilot facility was developed in record time. The facility provides a model for the future development of biotechnology infrastructure in Western Australia and an opportunity for early revenues for the Company. The clean rooms have been designed to meet the strict regulations of the Therapeutic Goods Association and international regulators and will be used for the manufacture of product for human clinical trials.
Orthocell are focusing their research on biological therapies for tissue repair and regeneration for tendons, particularly the commonly injured shoulder and ankle tendons.
